Forget the store-bought stuff and make this healthier homemade Hoisin sauce. As complex and unique as many Asian sauces may taste, this one literally takes only minutes to prepare and if you love cooking Asian food you’ll probably have all the ingredients ready to go in your pantry. With the Vibe Blender System, the sauce becomes smooth, thick and glossy in seconds. Best of all, it’s completely free from flavour enhancers and preservatives, it's also vegan and paleo.
Hoisin is a centuries-old Chinese barbecue sauce that traditionally includes fermented black bean paste. This ingredient, however, is hard to find and is rarely gluten free. Our homemade version uses a combination of peanut butter and tamari sauce (or coconut aminos) to replicate the umami black bean flavour. You'll get a thick sauce, with a strong, robust, salty-sweet taste that is just as authentic.
Traditionally, Hoisin is used as a dipping sauce for meats or spread on buns filled with pork or duck, but there are actually no limits to its uses. We used it as a dipping sauce for fresh Vietnamese springs rolls – it tastes incredible with Vietnamese mint by the way! It’s also a wonderful marinade or glaze for meats or sauce for a stir fry. It’s likely to become one of your favourite instant homemade sauces.

Blend on ‘smoothie’ mode for 30 seconds or until smooth. Stop once to scrap down the sides if necessary.
Pour sauce into a serving bowl or store in a jar with lid.
The sauce will keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
